Autumn Escape, Spring and a giveaway.

Spring is here.  We have sunlight.  We have new life in plants, we have spring winds and we have an overwhelming urge to sit in the sun drinking, more often.  (Anyone else?!)  Spring makes me feel optimistic, it makes me feel more social, it makes me overlook some of the things that annoyed me in winter.  How can one feel dreary when this is just two doors down…

Cherry tree blog

This is the Awanui cherry tree that flowered a full two weeks early this year.  It's losing it's blossoms now.  In those Spring winds.  The Westerly that is currently flying thousands of pink blossoms horiztonally past my window at an alarming rate, and then plastering them all over the other neighbours car.  I might not feel so optimistic if it was my car.

I'm saving that photo to use on a special layout.  You know the one.  Where I use that special paper.  that I didn't use last time because I like it so much.  Honestly, sometimes I question myself.

I chatted to Megan from Sketchbook during the week and she has some places opened up in her retreat.  6-8 November.  See more info here.  I've been to one of Megan's retreats and they are fabulous.

Autumn Escape classes due to go up next week sometime, keep an eye out for those, as well as an email from Lucy packed with details of what Rachel Tucker, Kelly Goree and I will have to offer.  I'm slowly securing sponsors for our event, with Pink Paislee joining in the fun this week, plus a few other different kinds of sponsors that we'll keep a surprise.

Thanks for your comments and congrats with the Big Picture Scrapbooking workshop I have coming up next year.  It's going to be chocka FULL of technique.  It's going to have 12 weeks of how-to and this-is-how.  Step by step instructions, tips and techniques with some manufacturer support ang giveaways thrown in.
The main question as I start to work on content is this though… what exactly do you want to learn?  What techniques?  What *kind* of stuff is it that you see that you wish you knew how to do?  I have a list about 3 miles long of possibilities, I have so much to say and show you, if you could help me narrow it down, that'd be appreciated!  Leave me a comment and I'll put together a giveaway to send to one comment, drawn next Monday NZ time.
Free stuff is always fun, right?

Apparently spring makes me feel more generous, too.

Leaving you with a layout from the last Tarisota kit.
Fun at the Autumn Escape with some amazing ladies.  how 'bout that.

I think this is a cool thing to do but not quite sure how.

Hi Nic, I loved your Point of View workshop and can’t wait to do your next one!!! I would love to learn how to do the tearing and ripping of paper that I see in so many LO’s lately. I’m a bit scared to give it a go and some tips of how to do it properly so it looks effective would be really useful!!!

Our cherry tree also flowered earlier this year, and the blossums lasted longer than usual too which was nice.
I’d like to be shown interesting ways to incorporate paint and glitter into my layouts/cards.

Ohhh, I’m so excited to hear this. I haven’t taken a technique driven class at BPS in a long time. I love the look of tons of embellies stacked up and clustered together. Only when I do it, it looks out of place and like a bunch of stuff just there. Would love to have some tips on what you pull together and how to target placement so it looks like it all fits. Also finishing touches. So many times I get done with a layout and I’m happy with it, but it still needs something. Minimal finishing touches that add the “wow” factor. Thanks Nic! Can’t wait to see what you come up with.

    Hi Nic,
Loved your cherry tree photo, I too am a bit obsessed with watching the blossoms on our cherry tree, unfortunately someone else was watching it too, we got up one morning and some wild Rosella parrots were having a feast on the buds of the blossoms just before they opened!! I had to leave them to it because i also love birds and my boys and i were fascinated watching these wild birds in our suburban backyard!
I can hardly wait for Autumn Escape! I did your SENZ scrapbook class and had a ball!
    I would love to learn your tricks with Glimmer Mist, since your class I have bought a few colours but havn’t had a real play yet! I also have a couple of “The Crafters Workshop” plastic stencils which i would love to see your ideas with. I love the way you layer and add the special “Nic” Wow factor! :}

There’s so many techniques out there – it’s just so hard to choose ONE !! For me I’d like to learn more about layering – everytime I try it it never turns out how I imagine it would. The papers work but there is a knack as to the best way of achieving it. That would be very cool !!

this is probably not helpful with planning your class(!) but I have been wondering for a while – how do you store all those beautiful layouts you churn out? Do you keep them all in your albums, or do some of those get shipped of to whoever you are designing for, never to be in your album again? How many albums do you have? and what is your long term ‘vision’ for them all? (Will they be packed up and sent out the door with the rest of your kids belongings when the day comes, or are you saving them to show your grandkids?!)

I’d love to see you teaching people how not to be so uptight about their work. Maybe a lesson where there isn’t a technique – where you give them some thoughts to play with but don’t spell it out. Leave it to their own imagination. So many people seem to stress about getting their layout ‘exactly right’ but it ends up just a copy of someone elses. Freeing up. Making it your own art work.(Hope that’s not too esoteric!)

I’d love to see you teaching people how not to be so uptight about their work. Maybe a lesson where there isn’t a technique – where you give them some thoughts to play with but don’t spell it out. Leave it to their own imagination. Ans last not least, a bit about good ole page design, visual triangle etc.
