In the old days…

Comments closed thanks :o)  Winner picked, will post shortly.

Did anyone else's mother used to wash tin foil in the old days?  There I was, a week ago now, making a huge pile of roasted potatoes for a dinner we were going to.  I was using tin foil and as I placed it over the dish I said to my hubby"Can you believe my mother used to wash this stuff and keep it in the drawer with the knives and forks?" Paul admitted his Mum too and we had a good laugh at their expense.

And then I ran out of tin foil.

Apparently I should have been washing the tin foil and keeping it, and then I wouldn't have run out.

One of these arrived in the mail the other day.  The new Stampin' Up! catalog/idea book.  Here are some pics I took as I flicked through.

And the good news – I have two of these catalogs to give away…

Leave me a comment and I'll randomly choose two people to send them to.  It's well worth having one of these, they are chocka full of ideas.

More from my scrap room… a few little bits and pieces from Crafty Matters. We've had a shipment arrive for one of Kim's classes at the Autumn Escape.  (I think it's the one that is sold out, actually!).. I hadn't seen the ceramic embellishments before so I couldn't resist pulling them out for a look.

Just a quick post today.  Someone asked the other day if the Autumn Escape has been a lot of work.  More than we ever imagined.  I'll be head down for the few weeks to come.  Excitment is slowly creeping in with the realisation that soon you'll all start to see what we have been working on.
I look forward to being back in the blogging world a little more often when it's all over.  Although we are already planning Autumn Escape 2010.

Washing tin foil.  Who would have thought.

oh yea – leave me a comment, I have 2 of those stampin up catalogs to give away.  If you aren't in, you're out. What have you got to lose.

Nic, I tried to leave a comment a few weeks ago re your book. I was so disappointed that production has been postponed. As you know, I loved your first book and was eager to see another.
Tin foil! I vaguely remember Mum doing the same……I think some of the reason it was washed and then put in the cutlery drawer was to keep the silverware gleaming. Aluminium foil is a quick way to clean silver cutlery. …..No, I don’t wash my foil. LOL
    Have a great day!!!

It sounds pretty funny right now but back then “disposable” hadn’t caught on. My aunt washed tin foil, bread wrappers, saved the bread twisties, aluminum pie pans, snuff glasses. As kids we had our initial on a snuff glass and we used the same glass all day.She also saved the little baskets tomatoes and strawberries came in.If it could be washed and reused she did. That could be a scrapbook page, haha. ms.cheryl

I’m going to ask my Mum about the foil thing! Too funny! I bet organising the retreat is a heap of work, I so wish I was coming – just can’t afford it at the moment. I know you’ll make it a ton of fun for all the girls!

Yep. My mum recycled tin foil, washed plastic bags, and even rebottled the oil that she cooked fish in.
Too bad my sis and I didn’t know that – cos we made melting moments with the same oil!!!

I have never washed tin foil, granted it makes sense. Thanks for the chance to win the catalogs… btw, those little ceramic thingies are so cute, I thought they were cookies at first.

Pick me please I turned 30 yesterday and got no pressies and had a big fight over the fact that I didn’t even get a card from DH – whom I should forgive since he trying to get the painting finished that I asked him too – he just can’t win!

It would appear my mum was one of many that washed out her plastic bags! Heaven help so do I – I must be either mad or have time on my hands?! Oh, and paper bags were kept to use when getting oil stains out of clothes, you’d put the bag over the clothes and iron over the top – and it works!

Washing bread bags – yes, occasionally. Sometimes we get to exchange a certain number of bags for a free loaf! Now that’s incentive for saving the bags.
I’d love to get the catalog. We dont’ have Stampin’ Up here in Singapore!

Autumn Escape sounds like so much fun, wish I could go, but with a 7 week old bubs life is a little hectic. A SU catalogue would be great, something for me to look at and make me jealous since I have no time to make anything at the moment. Maybe soon…

My mother who was a young child in Europe after WW2 and never seemed to recover from her days of poverty….washed foil, plastic bags, kept the little bread ties, saved brown bags in fact she recycled before it was even “trendy”… BUT the one that makes my family laugh the most is that our old clothes were always given to charity without buttons… because you never know when you might need a button.. go figure!!!!?? Lol
