I really had no idea that the response to doing this kid’s album would be so huge! How awesome! I can’t say I had anything prepared or planned – I was just going to go off what I had done for the 2 previous albums I had done and find my way.
But it’ll be even better if you all find your way with me! OK first we need to make a pact. What is started must be finished, and anyone that has sat in on any of my classes knows that is one of the ‘rules’. Noone leaves until they are finished. I’m not sure how I’ll enforce that here, that could be tricky, I’ll think on that one. But I guess all I need to say is that it really is worth it. We do lots of albums about our kids, but how many can we hand to them and truly say, "here, this is yours, read it, share it, enjoy it, take it and show everyone, throw it in your bookcase and it’ll be alright." So that’s the aim.
Some people have mentioned they are doing this for older children – this is aimed towards younger, but we’ll work it out. Now I have typepad I can answer comments! WOW! We’ll work it out together. If anyone asks a question in comments, feel free to join in if anyone else has the answers. Because although I tell my kids I know everything, it’s not entirely true. I’m working this out as we go along.
Oh – and I have to say again that this was something originally done by Lisa Bearnson. She put these albums together and sold them as a unit to raise money for under-priveledged kids back in 2001.
First thing we need to do is find an album. I use these provocraft ones, they are about 6 x 9 inches with sewn in page protectors. I don’t know if they are still available. I bought mine in 2001! Adapt this to whatever album you want though. As I said, I did nothing special with the cover because the kids truly own these books. They get a rough time!
I have shown you the first inside cover of Abby’s album, but here is the boys. Remember to include a photo of your young one holding up however many fingers they are in age, something regarding the album being made for them by you, and the date.
(Remember these are 5 and 3 years old and oooh so simple – I wanted to just give you an idea of what I did years ago for the format I’m following!)
Now the next 2 pages after this require another the following:
* A nice pic of your child – no subject, just a nice pic of them. Write "my name is…" and ask them to write their name. Then put "and I am ___ years old"
* Ask your child what they like about themselves. I’ll add Jacob and Braden’s pages below to give you an example.
I’m going to come back to you on Sunday with examples of what I’ve done with these two pages for Abby’s album! Being a little but further on in time and being that I have some Stampin’ Up! stuff to play with, my pages will probably be a little more extravagant than I made for the boys. Creating is half the fun! The other half is giving these books to the kids.

Oh and a few other things I have to let you know about ..
1. The prize draw for the SCKC 6×6 pages that you all did will be soon. We are just counting names/pages and prizes. Stampin’ Up! have let me now the prize they will be sending out is one of the new catalogs (it’s a great idea book!), a ‘Good things Grow’ stamp set, a tag punch and a few inks. All the names from Trina and I will be combined to go up for all the prizes, so I’ll update on that in a few days.
2. Thanks for moving with me – I’m still a little unsure, but I’m sure this will be great once I learn the ropes.
